For four generations, the Chauvin family and its trusted employees have been providing insurance for families and businesses throughout The North Country of New York State.
The president of Chauvin Agency is Gene Chauvin. Gene's grandfather, Hector Chauvin, formed what is today's agency when he was appointed in 1932 by the Beekmantown Grange as a director. Grange members originally established fire protection insurance plans for farmers throughout the region.
In 1958, Hector's son, Merritt — then in his twenties — was appointed as a Grange director and assigned as a fire insurance agent for the area.
Eventually, liability and risk programs were added to the insurance services Merritt Chauvin could offer his clients.
In 1963, Merritt purchased an insurance agency in Rouses Point, New York. From there, he grew the business by leaps and bounds, purchasing six more small insurance agencies in the region. The Chauvin Agency gained a reputation for providing a wide variety of insurance coverages at reasonable costs to its customers.
Illness forced Merritt from the business, but his wife, Lita Chauvin, operated Chauvin Agency until 1996. Today, their son, Gene Chauvin, continues the dedication to providing first-rate insurance coverages at costs designed to fit client budgets. Gene has taken the business to its fourth generation by bringing his own son, Andre Chauvin, into the team as a licensed insurance producer.
